WOMENS SPRING / SUMMER 09

“NATURAL DIS-TINCTION UN-NATURAL SELECTION”

This collection is inspired by Charles Darwin and 'The Origin of the Species' - by evolution both in a conceptual and technical sense. Antique taxidermy, fiery golden sun and a cool silver moon form the backdrop to the show which features everything from engineered prints inspired by the earth's raw materials - wood-grain, granite, crystal - to more exploring the dawn of the industrial age - coiled metal and the Eiffel Tower. Bucolic embroideries, soft colours and natural fabrics give way to "specimen jar" dresses where enamelled flowers in more virulent shades are trapped in tulle and a diamond print which morphs into a human skeleton. The natural versus the technological or super-natural, perhaps.
